S’chach Mat Sizing
The roof covering (s’chach) of a sukkah is one of the most critical parts — it must be of plant material and provide more shade than sun, but not block out the stars.
Sukkah Project® kits provide a roof support system of wooden or bamboo roof slats designed to be covered with greenery gathered locally (branches, cornstalks, reeds, shrub prunings, etc).
Another option is the use of bamboo s’chach roof mats made specifically for this purpose. We offer these in several modular sizes (4×8, 4×10, 4×12, 5×10, 5×12, 6×8, 6×10, 6×12, 8×8, 8×10), which can be combined to cover any size Sukkah. The table below indicates the mat sizes used to cover Sukkah Project ® sukkah kits of different dimensions.
Our convenient mats consist of bamboo slats woven with durable, weatherproof monofilament string, with sturdy bamboo sticks woven in every two feet to provide stability. With proper care you can expect these bamboo s’chach mats to provide many years of use.
