Wood-frame
Sukkah Project™
kits employ a set of ingenious galvanized steel braces to assemble a sturdy,
reusable sukkah frame using standard-length 2x4 lumber. The only tool required
is a screwdriver. The various kits contain all the braces and hardware needed to
build a sukkah ranging in size from 8'x8' to 16'x40'.
In addition
to the braces and hardware, the kit includes an illustrated, step-by-step
assembly manual that is logical and simple to understand. The Sukkah Project™
was designed for the complete novice builder and requires no previous carpentry
skill or knowledge. Even a complete klutz can handle it!
Lumber for
the project does not come with the kit, but is easily obtained at any building
supply store using the "shopping list" included with the instructions. The
project uses inexpensive, standard-length 2x4s for the frame and 1x2s or 2x2s
for the roof. Walls can be made from a variety of materials including natural or
synthetic fabrics, wood lattice, plywood, or our specially-designed
SukkahScreen. The roof may be covered with
locally-gathered greenery or with specially designed bamboo
mats
The Sukkah
Project™
is affordable: Wood frame kits start at $56. Cost of lumber and wall coverings
will vary. In any case, you will be able to build a complete Sukkah Project™
Sukkah for a fraction of the cost of a pre-fab sukkah of similar size.
Assembly is
quick and easy: First-time assembly of a smaller-sized sukkah will take about
two hours. Taking it down requires only about 30 minutes, as most screws are
left in place permanently. The sukkah stores compactly and will provide decades
of use. Reassembly in future years will take an hour or less. The work is not
strenuous and can be a lot of fun. Building a sukkah is a great family project.
Kits contain
steel connectors and hardware, plus the Assembly Manual with lumber list. The
following kit sizes are available (shown with optional wall covering):
